California Department of Transportation officials are considering installing a barrier on dangerous State Route 67 which runs through the eastern part of San Diego County‚ including Ramona and Lakeside. Despite stepped up enforcement by California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers‚ deadly car accidents continue to occur. Based upon an appeal from San Diego County Supervisor Dianne Jacob‚ CalTrans is considering a concrete center median barrier to prevent street racing accidents like the one that killed Alexandria Drake of Chula Vista. Since 2003‚ there have been 29 fatal accidents along the same stretch of SR-67.
A mother and her adult daughter were killed by an inexperienced truck driver.
